Description

Skin tags are flesh coloured or brown growths, they hang from the surface of the skin and vary in size ranging from a few millimetres to up to 5cm. They’re usually found on the armpits, neck, around the groin, eyelids or under the breasts. Whilst Skin Tags are harmless and don’t usually cause pain or discomfort, they can often catch or clothing or jewellery and may also cause a person to have confidence and self esteem issues.

Skin Tags tend to develop where skin rub against skin or clothing. They are therefore more common in overweight people as they commonly occur where the skin creases or folds. They can also be hereditary whilst pregnant women may be more likely to develop them due to hormonal changes and people who suffer with Diabetes are also more prone to them.

 

 

 

Skin Tags vary in appearance but can have the following characteristics:

• Small
• Flesh Coloured
• Brown Coloured
• Hang off the skin
• Look similar to Warts.

No, Skin Tags are not dangerous. However a Skin Tag can be confused with other skin conditions, if you notice any abnormal changes or are concerned about a Skin Tag it is important to visit your GP to receive the correct diagnosis and rule out the possibility of other conditions.
