Warts are highly contagious skin growths that vary in appearance and can develop singularly or in clusters.

Warts are small lumps that develop on the skin of the hands and feet. Whilst Warts are benign (non-cancerous) they are highly contagious and tend to affect children and teenagers more than adults. Warts are usually round or oval shape, have a rough, irregular surface similar to a cauliflower and can very in size from less than 1mm to 10mm (1cm). Whilst Warts are not dangerous or usually painful they can occasionally itch or bleed and cause a person to be self conscious of certain areas of their body.

What does a Wart look like?

Warts vary in appearance but can have the following characteristics:

• Round or Oval Shaped.
• Be firm and raised.
• Have a rough irregular surface similar to a cauliflower.
• Often develop on the knuckles, fingers and knees.
• Vary in size, from less than 1mm to more than 10mm (1cm) in diameter

Warts are highly contagious and are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), though there are over 100 different strains of the virus, each strain being responsible for different type of warts. HPV is passed on through physical or close contact though it can be transmitted via contaminated objects for example a hand towel or the flooring surrounding a swimming pool. However the virus is more likely to spread if the skin is wet ,soft or has been in contact with a rough surface.

There are number of ways to prevent warts these include, not sharing personal items e.g towels with somebody who has a Wart as well as not touching other peoples warts.

If you have a Wart yourself avoid scratching or picking the Wart ,as the virus can spread to other parts of the body. It is also important to take care when shaving as the virus can spread easily if you cut yourself. Also covering your Wart with a waterproof plaster when swimming and wearing gloves whilst at the gym will prevent them spreading

Prior to any treatment you will be invited to the Aesthetics Of Liverpool clinic for an initial consultation where you will be able to discuss your concerns and what you are hoping to achieve from treatment, from your consultation we will be able to advise what treatment path is best for you.
